Sharepoint alerts functionality
I want to know how alerts work on the Sharepoint.

When somebody uploads document, an alert is sending e-mail to the designated users (depends on settings). And my question is how is it implemented?

Does the Sharepoint alert is send to the user immediately after the file upload? Or is there any schedule Implemented on the SharePoint?

Sharepoint alerts are triggered depending upon the settings done by your sharepoint admin.

The command to check the immediate alert is

stsadm -o getproperty -pn job-immediate-alerts -url http://server_name

Note: this command shoulnd be run from Sharepoitn server by your sharepoitn administrator.
